MY STORY

I Randy B. Haskins was born October 1st 1969. I began training at the age of nine in various arts. I was not content until I met Sensei William Mark Whitley, Director of the TAIKIDO KARATE KAI. Taikido Karate was founded in the early 1960’s by Master Willie M. Whitley Jr. Master Whitley was born October 6th 1940. He studied Shukokai Karate, Shotokan Karate, Hung Gar Kung Fu and Judo. Master Whitley died on March 2nd 1985 of cancer. Sensei Whitley inherited the Taikido Karate system after the death of Master Whitley, at which time he added his own personal touch in order to enhance the system. Sensei Whitley studied Ashihara Karate, Judo, Taekwondo and American Freestyle Wrestling. The theories that encompass the system of Taikido Karate are strong traditional technique and a persevering attitude. Through strong dedication and hard work I earned my second degree Black Belt (Nidan) on March 2nd 1992. I was now curious, so I began visiting other dojo’s and attending seminars so that I may learn more about other styles and fighting forms. I witnessed many disturbing things during that time. The two things that stood out the most were the impractical theories of traditional karate and the lack of realism within the training. One day while visiting a friend at his job, I was introduced to a man who became a major driving force in my development. Sensei Takeshi Okamura, a 6th degree Black Belt in DAITO RYU AIKI JUJUTSU introduced me to a whole new spectrum, involving joint manipulation and pressure points. I now hold a 5th degree Black Belt in Karate and a 3rd degree in Aiki Jujutsu. Through my personal experience in training as well as life, I felt the need to express my beliefs through a modified fighting form. With that in mind the SEIGYO DO KARATE KAI was founded in early 1996. Seigyo Do Karate translated means, " The way of control with empty hands." This system was designed with the smaller practitioner in mind. We rely on blind spot positioning, off balancing techniques and pressure point attacks to achieve our goal. We do not go against our opponent’s natural directions or reactions; we help them along, as well as our own. In my twenty plus years training I’ve had the opportunity to test techniques in sparring sessions, street altercations and challenge matches and what I discovered led me to my next statement. This is not a business, sport, nor is it a hobby, it is my life’s focus. I have been afforded many opportunities as a result of my training, such as training under three of the greatest instructors in the world. As I mentioned above, Sensei Whitley, Sensei Okamura, two-time National Judo Champion and SUISHIN RYU KARATE founder Master Noriyasu Kudo. I was also selected to fight and train in Tokyo Japan, a great honor that I took full advantage of. We believe in selective acceptance, dedication and realistic training. Only serious individuals need apply.
